Minecraft has officially entered The Copper Age! This update is all about embracing the versatility of copper, allowing players to transform the metal into everything from practical tools and armor to decorative blocks, specialized storage, and even lively mechanical friends.

New Copper Features

This release introduces several major features centered around copper:

Copper Golem & Copper Chest

• Copper Golems are handy, organization-loving mechanical companions. Crafted using copper and a Carved Pumpkin, they are designed to bring life and order to your base.
• Copper Chests are a new type of storage block that can be created using a regular Chest and Copper Ingots.
• The Copper Golem interacts with the Copper Chest: when you drop items into the Copper Chest, the Golem will automatically remove and sort them into nearby regular chests based on the item type.
• Like other copper blocks, Copper Chests oxidize over time, but their appearance can be preserved by waxing them.

Copper Equipment

Copper is now a new equipment tier, sitting between stone and iron in terms of durability and effectiveness.

• You can now craft Copper Armor, Tools, and Weapons.
• Copper Armor has higher durability than leather but less than iron, and its enchantability is slightly lower than iron.
• Unlike copper blocks, these items do not oxidize.
• Smelting copper equipment yields Copper Nuggets.
• Hostile mobs can now spawn with and pick up Copper Armor and Weapons.
• Copper Horse Armor has been added, with the same loot table and chance of generating as Iron Horse Armor.

Copper Decorations

A host of new decorative and functional copper blocks has been added:

• Copper Torch: A green variant of the regular Torch, crafted from a Copper Nugget, Coal, and a Stick. It is functionally identical to the standard torch.
• Copper Bars: Functions similarly to the existing Iron Bars and will oxidize over time.
• Copper Chain: Functions like the existing Chain block (now renamed to Iron Chain) and oxidizes over time.
• Copper Lantern: Crafted with copper and a Copper Torch. The lantern block itself oxidizes, changing its look as it ages, but it is functionally identical to the standard Lantern.

Shelves

• Shelves are a new container block that allows players to display up to three items, which remain easily accessible. To display an item, hold it and interact with the shelf. Interacting with a slot that already contains an item will swap it out.
• Powered Shelves can be created using Redstone. These shelves can connect when placed facing the same direction and can swap out multiple items from the player’s hotbar simultaneously, which is great for quick gear changes.

General Fixes and Improvements

The update also includes several technical and quality-of-life fixes:

General

• Fixed an issue where paintings would break when joining a multiplayer game in high-latency situations.
• Grass color in Swamp biomes has been corrected, as it was previously too green.
• Improved chunk blending around Frozen Rivers and enabled blending for Legacy Chunks to fix issues where blocks were missing on terrain load.
• Visual improvements for “Vibrant Visuals” mode, including increased thickness on the block selection wireframe and fixes for desaturated items like Chests and Bows when held.
• Fixed issues with unlit Candles and Cake Candles not casting shadows, and various depth buffer issues involving water and Glass Blocks with candles.

Mobs

• Wolves will no longer start shaking off water if they are already in the process of doing so.
• Foxes now correctly recognize Honey Bottles as a food item and will prioritize picking them up.
• Zombies and Skeletons can once again spawn wearing diamond-tier armor.
